St Vincent’s College possesses a very fine tradition with sport.
Sport is an integral part of the College and at times, over half the student body number registers and plays a Term Sport, proving its popularity and the great enthusiasm of the girls. Information on each of the specific sports available at St Vincent's College is located below.

Athletics and Cross Country
IGSA Cross Country Carnival
The Carnival is being held on Friday 16 May, 2025 at Frensham School, Mittagong from 8.30am - 1.30pm. The back up date is Friday May 23 if the course is still too wet.
There will be a meeting for all girls wishing to compete at the IGSA Cross Country Carnival in Wednesday 1 May at 12:45pm (Outside the pool)
Cross Country is held at Frensham School. School bus leaving Victoria St at 6:30am. Students may make their own way to Frensham but need to be there by 8.30am for the Walk the Course and team meeting to get singlet numbers. The first race is the 12 years 3Km at 9.30am and then every half an hour until the 18 years at 12.30pm.
Cross Country Training is held at the College, Rushcutters Bay Park and surrounds. Sessions are run by experienced coach Natasha Stenberg and include warm-up activities, fitness, drills and tactics. The students meet outside the change rooms at 3:15pm on Mondays and Wednesdays ( Starting Mon 3 March) and will be back at the college by 4:30pm. If it is wet weather training will be held in the college gym. Once you have registered your interest with Ms Jacobs, the students can come to one or both sessions each week.
Equipment and Uniform:
Cross Country uniform set consists of the SVC shorts, SVC Athletics singlet(No 21), SVC sport socks, SVC tracksuit. Non-SVC clothing is not to be worn to sport.
Uniforms for sport must be purchased from the College uniform shop prior to the first Saturday of Sport. For the IGSA Cross Country Carnival, the College will be taking a small bus or you can make your own way to Frensham.
IGSA Athletics
Athletics Squad training commences Term 2 after the College Athletics Inter-House Carnival.
Term 3 includes training sessions, Friday Night Carnival, IGSA Athletics Carnival and then representative Carnival early term 3.
Important Dates:
- The SVC Athletics Carnival will be held at E S Marks on Tuesday May 20, 2025.
SVC will be competing at three IGSA Friday Night Athletics Carnival this year. These will be the one on Friday August 1, Friday August 8 and Friday August 15. They will commence at 4.30pm and go to approximately 8pm. Held at SOPAC, Homebush.
2025 IGSA Carnival .
- The 800m and Hurdles Heats will be held on Thursday 21 August ( 4pm- 7pm) Bus leaves at 3.10pm and will return at approximately 7.45pm.
- Main Carnival is held on Friday, 22 August 2025 - Commences 8am-3pm. Held at SOPAC, Homebush.Bus leaves at 6.45am and will return at approximately 4.00pm.
Transport:
For the IGSA Athletics Carnival, a bus is organised to transport the students to and from the carnival. We do however, invite parents to transport students to the carnival and attend.
Training sessions:
Athletics Trainings are held after school (3:00pm-5pm). The Athletics training is held at E.S. Marks Field on Wednesdays. Athletics training will replace Cross Country training after the IGSA Carnival at Frensham. Mondays training will still be at Rushcutters Bay and Ms Jacobs will transport girls to E S Marks by bus on Wednesdays commencing on July 17. The students a re to get changed straight after school and wait outside the change rooms at 3.15pm. before going to the bus on Victoria St. They may be collected from E S Marks at 5pm or return to the College on the bus and make their way home from there. There are only 6 E S Marks sessions before the IGSA Carnival so all athletes must try to come to as many as possible.
Equipment and Uniform:

Team Selection:
Ms Jacobs selects the SVC Athletics Squad from the results from the Lunchtime events and training. Final selections for the IGSA Main Carnival will then be made from training sessions and the three Friday night competitions. on August 2, 9 and 16.
Cost for the Term:
The fee for Cross Country is approximately $100. The fee for Athletics is approximately $150. Cost includes: Coaching, Carnival entry fees, bus hire, venue hire, equipment and administration. This amount will be billed to the student's school fees account.

Basketball
IGSA BASKETBALL TERM 2 and TERM 3 (must play for both terms)
In Term 2 and Term 3 our students register for the IGSA season, which is renowned for its high level of competition and professionalism.
Important Dates:
The IGSA Term 2 Basketball ball competition begins on Saturday 3 May, 2025 (No Game 7 June - LWE)
The IGSA Final Round( No Finals - First past the post) is on Saturday 21 June, 2025
The IGSA Term 3 Basketball competition begins on Saturday 26 July, 2025
The IGSA Semis are Saturday 13 September and the Finals are on Saturday 20 September, 2025

The Draw is published on this page as an ATTACHMENT. PLUS - The Draw will be advertised on the school sports noticeboard in Garcia Building, plus a reminder given each week at training. Girls MUST COMMUNICATE if they are unavailable one Saturday. Notes/Emails written by parents please. Boarders must be at training to ask team mates parents for transport on a rotational basis.
Venues:
In Terms 2 and 3 IGSA Competition, our teams play against schools such as PLC Pymble, Abbotsleigh, and Kambala to name a few. The Saturday morning games are played at various venues and schools throughout Sydney. Depending on the draw, some teams may have to travel to play Frensham at Mittagong. Game times range from 8am till 11am. Venues are attached below.
Transport:
Saturday transport is not arranged by the College. Boarders are to organise lifts with day girls in their teams and all Boarders must plan ahead and be proactive. Talk to your team/coach at training. Since Boarding students need to be driven to venues and back to school each Saturday, it would make sense to rotate this responsibility with all parents. Please try to help the boarders at least once each term with lifts.
Game Times and Arrival time to venue:
The Draw will not be available until the first week back of Term. From past experience, Seniors often play 8am and 9am; Juniors (YR 8/9) play 9am or 10am and Year 7 play at 10am or 11am. Please allow for Sydney traffic and arrive 30 minutes prior to match time for your warm-up. Please sign on at the convenor table and be in full College sports uniform.
Wet Weather:
Term 2/3 and rain cancellations - Your coach will text, however, best to keep checking the IGSA sports website for basketball venues. An indoor venue is always OK, however, if you are an outdoor venue, you need to constantly check the IGSA website if the Saturday brings heavy rain.

Absenteeism:
If unable to train, a note must be presented to the Sports Coordinator before the session. If the student is injured or unwell but still attending school then they are required to go to the session and watch and learn. Three unexplained missed training sessions, means you may be bumped from the Team and might not be considered for sport the following Term.. To request absenteeism from a match, a note should be submitted to the Head Coach and Sports Coordinator at least 3 days prior to the match, if possible so we can organise a replacement if needed
Equipment and Uniform:
The basketball uniform set includes SVC navy blue shorts, SVC Basketball numbered singlet. In hot weather, wear the correct soft peak cap. Non SVC clothing is not to be worn to sport. Only as a last resort, tape a number on your PE shirt if you haven't yet purchased a basketball singlet.

IGSA Reminders 2025
- Please remind all players to sign on (for themselves only), neatly and correctly before the start of the game.
- Please supply a scorer for each game and ensure either each scorer sits with the other team’s scorer or that they check scores regularly throughout the game. Captains must sign the score sheet at the end of the game.
- Please make sure players maintain short fingernails throughout the season, are not wearing jewellery/earrings. IGSA will not accept bandaids on ears as earring are NOT permitted in the game.
- Suitable footwear compulsory.
- Any players that play for another team other than the one they are registered in must be in accordance with the Playing up rules.

Registration is an on-line process and plenty of notice is provided by the sports staff. For Term 2/3 sport, register in Term 1.

The fee for Term 2 IGSA Basketball is approx. $310 and the fee for Term 3 IGSA Basketball is approx. $310 and includes coaches, registration fees, venue hire, equipment and administration. The amount for Term 2 will be charged on Clipboard when you register and then Term 2's $310 will be billed to the student’s school fees account.

Five-a-Side/Futsal Term 4 - NOT BEING RUN IN 2022
Our students register for the Indoor Futsal season which is renowned for its high energy and professionalism
Competition Commencement:
All girls must be available to play the first Friday of Term 4 and every other Friday during the season. This is only fair, as you are part of a team that supports one another. On Friday evenings games are held between 4:30pm and 9:30pm games (games run for 30 minutes).

Due to Covid 19 your own drink bottles must be used. All participants and staff are to maintain 1.5m distance when talking. Hands are to be washed or sanitised before and after the match. No hand shaking and no sharing of equipment.
New Rule
We are not playing the new rule with regards to high balls in Schoolgirls but will be playing the new position for the long corner and the hits in the 25 area, the high ball rule is not being played in Schoolgirls.

Most venues are turf and games won't be cancelled unless torrential or lightening.

Netball

Netball is very popular at SVC. We pride ourselves on working hard at training sessions, displaying respect to coaches and therefore committing to all training sessions, thus forming effective teams and relationships with coaches. In competition mode, we display skill, fighting spirit and sportsmanship.

* We will be playing in IGSA in Term 2 and 3 for the first time this year and it will be the same teams. The Term 2/3 IGSA teams will be created after Trials are run. Everyone must attend Trials.
*If your child plays Netball at RNA or another Association, then join SVC Club as long as the commitment is there and priority to share the 'game time with other club' is there. There may be Saturday game time clashes, however with clear communication and planning, we avert dramas.

Up to 300 SVC students register for Term 2 and 3 IGSA Association season which is renowned for its high level of competition and professionalism. There are many state and rep level players in the Independant Girls School Association (IGSA).
Season Dates:
The IGSA Term 2 Netball competition begins on Saturday 3 May 2025. Year 7 will have a GALA Day and play 2 small games and do some skills and drills after watching a Senior A game. (No Game 7June - LWE)
The IGSA Final Round (No Finals - First past the post) is on Saturday 21 June 2025

Registering and Team Selection Process:
Registration for IGSA Netball is an on-line process. For Term 2, students register start of Term 1 on the SVC website. Do not miss registration.
- If you play in another Comp, please ensure you play four(4) x games for SVC to be fair to teammates and to be able to play in semis and finals. You may play SVC Club & your other club if it works for both teams.

The Robyn Webster Sports Centre at Tempewill host St Vincent’s College in Terms 2 and 3netballgames again. It is a sporting complex located at Tempe Reserve. Parking available on-site. Directions: Enter from Princes Highway into Holbeach Avenue. Drive through the roundabout, then veer right for 200 metres. Look for an ochre/white warehouse.

Boarding Students & Transport:
Saturday transport is not arranged by the College. Boarders are to organise lifts with day girls in their teams and all Boarders must plan ahead and be proactive. Talk to your team/coach at training. Since Boarding students need to be driven to venues and back to school each Saturday, it would be good if this responsibility was shared with all parents. Please try to help the boarders at least once each term with lifts.
Game Times and Arrival time to venue:
From past experience, Seniors usually play 8am and 9am; Juniors (YR 8/9) play 9am, 10am and Year 7 play at 10am or 11am. Please allow for Sydney traffic and arrive 30 minutes prior to match time for your warm-up. Please sign on at the convenor table and be in full College sports uniform.
Absenteeism:
If unable to train, a note must be presented to the Sports Coordinator before the session. If the student is injured or unwell but still attending school then they are required to go to the session and watch and learn. Three unexplained missed training sessions, means you may be bumped from the Team and might not be considered for sport the following Term.. To request absenteeism from a match, a note should be submitted to the Head Coach and Sports Coordinator at least 3 days prior to the match, if possible so we can organise a replacement if needed
Equipment and Uniform:
Students who participate in sport should have the college tracksuit or Sports Jersey and wear them on cold mornings in winter. Non SVC hoodies are NOT to be worn to Saturday sport or training. Long black tights are not permitted at training.

IGSA Reminders 2025
- Please remind all players to sign on (for themselves only), neatly and correctly before the start of the game.
- Please supply a scorer for each game and ensure either each scorer sits with the other team’s scorer or that they check scores regularly throughout the game. Captains must sign the score sheet at the end of the game.
- Please make sure players maintain short fingernails throughout the season, are not wearing jewellery/earrings. Suitable footwear compulsory

2024 IGSA Sport Swimming & Dive Championships
TERM 1
A College Representative squad is chosen after the College Swimming Inter-House Carnival in Term 1. The girls should be doing their own squad training. Year 7 students and any other new students will be timed in PE lessons and should email Ms Jacobs if they are interested in being selected for the IGSA Team.
The swimming team chosen form our College Carnival usually competes in the prestigious IGSA Carnival at Olympic Park, Homebush. Only one swimmer is allowed to be entered per school as there are 3 divisions of 9 = 27 schools. We are in Division 2 again this year. The relays are Junior (12, 13 and 14 years) Intermediate(15 and 16 years) and Seniors ( 17 & 18+years). Each swimmer is allowed a maximum of 4 events, one of which must be a relay.
Important Dates:
2025 IGSA Carnival is Friday March 14. Approximately 8:00am-4:00pm. Our team will be chosen from the College Interhouse Carnival.
The SVC 2025 Swimming Carnival is Tuesday 25th February, 2025. This will be the basis of selection for the College Team to compete at the IGSA Carnival next Term.

2025 COMPETITION
In Term 4 and 1, our students register for the IGSA season which is renowned for its high level of competition and professionalism. The College will also enter a Tildesley Tennis Team to compete in the Term 1 Tournament, and in Term 4, the team commences training for the following year.
Competition Commencement:
All girls must be available to play the first Saturday of Term and every Saturday during the season. This is only fair, as you are part of a team that supports one another. IGSA Competition commences on Saturday, 8 February 2025 and Finals are on Saturday, 5 April 2025.
Term 4 Tennis Commences onSaturday 18 October.
Round 7 games are played on Saturday, 29 November, No Finals - its first past the post.

The Eastern Suburbs Touch Association competition matches are held at Centennial Park, Mission Fields on Oxford St from 8am in the morning until 1pm in the afternoon.
The Reservoir Fields (named CP 01 for example), are off Oxford Street, Woollahra/Paddington. Park Oxford St or enter Centennial Park at Paddington Gates and turn left into Carrington Road. Mission Fields (MF) are hidden. Three options: 1. off Parkes Drive, turn west at main duck pond coffee caravan. Walk 300m west through soccer fields. 2. Enter Randwick gates (opp. racecourse), drive left 300m, park, walk across field to a clearing into Mission. 3. Park along Grand Drive, near Sydney Boys High field, walk behind their building for 150m.

For Term 4 2024 and Term 1 Sport 2025, we ask for Registrations in Term 3 2024. Registration is an online process and plenty of notice is provided by the sports staff. These registrations are always open from weeks 2-4 of the term before the competition.
Trials:
Team trials and grading will be held in the last few weeks of Term 3 for a Term 4 and Term 1 sport.
Trials will be held at the University of NSW Indoor Pool on Saturday September 21 Seniors (yrs 10 and 11) will be from 1.45pm - 3.00pm and Juniors
( yrs 8 and 9) will be held from 2.45pm - 4.00pm. Year 7 will be held 3.45pm- 5.00pm.
Year 7 and any New Year 8 - 12s (2025): Trials will be held at the College Monday 3 Feb from 2:30pm - 3:30pm. TBC
Cost for the Term:
The fee for Term 1 2025 is $310 and for Term 4 2025 approximately $310. This includes coaches, registration fees, venue hire, equipment and administration. This amount will be billed to student’s school fees account. Some Public Pools will also require an entry fee for players and spectators.
